SOLID LIVE SERVER PATCHING

Keep Your SOLID Servers Secure. Keep Them Running.

Security updates shouldn’t have to mean planned downtime.

SOLID Live Server Patching gives self-hosted SOLID customers a managed way to apply critical Linux security patches to running servers, without the usual reboot or maintenance window required for eligible live patches.

Powered by TuxCare technology and managed by the SOLIDitech Infrastructure team, the service helps keep your operating system kernel and critical security libraries protected against known vulnerabilities while reducing the operational work involved in regular server patching.

Stay patched. Stay protected. Stay online.

SOLID Liver Server Patching

Security Patching Without the Maintenance Window

Keeping servers patched is a basic part of good security. The challenge is doing it consistently without creating unnecessary disruption.

As the volume of security patches and newly identified vulnerabilities increases, traditional patching can mean more maintenance windows, more manual intervention and more time spent coordinating updates.

SOLID Live Server Patching changes that.

Eligible security patches are applied in memory while the server continues running, helping vulnerabilities to be patched sooner without waiting for the next scheduled reboot.

For self-hosted SOLID customers, that means a simpler way to keep critical infrastructure protected while SOLIDitech manages the patching process.

Why Live Server Patching?

Live patching reduces the compromise between patching quickly and keeping critical services available.

Respond Faster to Security Vulnerabilities

Patch eligible CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) sooner, without waiting for the next server maintenance window.

Reduce Planned
Downtime

Eligible live patches are applied to the running kernel without requiring a reboot, helping keep services available while security updates are made.

Reduce Manual
Patching Work

Less time spent planning routine patching windows, coordinating outages and manually applying eligible security updates.

Test Before Production

Staging and production feeds are managed separately, allowing patches to reach your staging environment before being released to production.

Protect More Than the Kernel

Coverage includes live patches for eligible Linux kernel vulnerabilities, as well as selected critical security libraries such as OpenSSL and glibc.

Managed by SOLIDitech

The service is configured, curated and monitored by the SOLIDitech Infrastructure team, giving you the benefit of live patching without another patching platform to manage yourself.

How SOLID Live Server Patching Works

SOLID Live Server Patching creates a managed patching path between TuxCare’s security updates and your self-hosted SOLID infrastructure.

How live patching works

1. Lightweight Agent Installation

A lightweight patching agent is installed on each applicable staging and production server. Additional production servers can be supported where required.

2. Secure Patch Retrieval

The agent periodically checks the SOLID Live Patch server for available security patches.

3. Staging Comes First

Patch delivery can be staggered between staging and production environments, giving updates an opportunity to run in your test environment before they reach your live infrastructure.

4. Patches Are Applied in Memory

Eligible patches are applied directly to the running kernel without requiring a server restart.

5. Patches Are Verified

Live patches are tested, verified and signed by TuxCare before being distributed through the SOLID Live Patch service.

6. Rollback Is Available

If an issue is identified, applied live patches can be rolled back safely.

Built for Self-Hosted SOLID Environments

SOLID Live Server Patching is available as an optional Value Added Service for customers hosting their own SOLID infrastructure.

SOLIDitech recommends Ubuntu 24 for current environments, although other supported Linux distributions and kernel versions may also qualify for live patching.

Because supported operating systems and kernels change over time, compatibility is confirmed against the current TuxCare support matrix.

Keep Your Servers Patched Without Adding More Patching Admin

SOLID Live Server Patching gives self-hosted SOLID customers a managed way to keep eligible operating system components securely patched, without relying on every update becoming another maintenance exercise.

The result is simpler patch management, vulnerabilities patched sooner and less unnecessary disruption to live services.

Frequently asked questions

Live server patching applies eligible security fixes to a running operating system kernel without requiring the server to reboot. This allows patched vulnerabilities to be addressed while the server remains available.

No. Live patching significantly reduces the need to reboot purely to apply eligible security patches, but servers may still need to be restarted for other maintenance, upgrades or infrastructure requirements.

When a server does restart, the available live patches are retrieved and reapplied.

The service provides live patches for eligible vulnerabilities affecting Linux operating system kernels, as well as selected critical security libraries including OpenSSL and glibc.

Coverage depends on the operating system, kernel and vulnerability involved.

Yes. SOLID Live Server Patching is managed and monitored by the SOLIDitech Infrastructure team.

The underlying live-patching technology is provided by TuxCare, while SOLIDitech manages its delivery within the supported SOLID server environment.

The service is designed for self-hosted SOLID customers who are responsible for the infrastructure running their SOLID environment and want a managed approach to keeping eligible server components securely patched.

The service supports separate staging and production patch feeds. Patches can be delivered to staging ahead of production, helping reduce the risk of unexpected issues reaching your live environment.
