From Kahoot to Career Chats: Inspiring Future Talent at #BreakTheRules 2026
Attracting great talent starts long before someone submits a CV. It starts with honest conversations, real exposure and helping students understand what a career in software can actually look like beyond lecture halls, assignments and job descriptions.
That’s why SOLIDitech was excited to attend UCT’s #BreakTheRules event on Saturday, 16 May 2026. The event gave us the opportunity to connect with students, share more about the work we do, and challenge some of the traditional ideas around careers in software development.

Instead of delivering a standard corporate presentation, we took a more interactive approach and ran our session through Kahoot!, turning the talk into a live quiz-style experience. Students could take part throughout the session, answer questions, react in real time, and engage with the content in a way that felt more natural than simply sitting through another slide deck.
The goal was simple: make the conversation useful, approachable and genuinely engaging.
Beyond explaining our services and the tools shaping the software industry, we wanted students to walk away with a clearer understanding of what matters in a modern software environment.
We spoke about the principles that guide SOLIDitech as a company, including our focus on quality code, trust, customer value, innovation and continuous growth. For students considering a future in software, these conversations matter because technical careers are shaped by more than technical skill alone.
Students also gained insight into how SOLIDitech invests in its people beyond day-to-day project work. Growth is supported through regular monthly one-on-ones, structured career paths and goal setting, access to Udemy Business, training and accreditation opportunities, and dedicated Friday training sessions where team members learn from external speakers, internal experts and each other.
The message was clear: learning does not stop once you start working. In software, that is where it becomes even more important.
We also shared what our team structures typically look like and how collaboration plays a critical role in the way we build software. Strong delivery depends on more than individual technical ability. It takes developers, QA analysts, team leads, scrum managers, business analysts and support teams working together to turn complex requirements into software that works in the real world.
Another important theme was the role of AI in the future of technology. We shared how SOLIDitech is embracing AI as part of our broader engineering and productivity toolkit, while reinforcing something we strongly believe: AI does not replace the human side of software. Communication, problem-solving, curiosity, judgement and teamwork remain just as important as technical ability.

Following the presentations, students joined us at the networking session where conversations continued around career growth, company culture, day-to-day life in the industry and practical ways to stand out when applying for opportunities. These conversations are often where the real value lies because they give students the chance to ask honest questions and gain real-world insight from people actively working in the field.
Of course, no networking session is complete without some swag. We handed out lanyards, phone stands and bottle openers, which were well received by the students.
We also ran a lucky draw competition, inviting students to complete a short entry form for the chance to win a Takealot voucher. The competition gave us another opportunity to connect with students who are interested in hearing more about future SOLIDitech opportunities, including early-career roles.
Events like #BreakTheRules matter because they create space for students and companies to meet in a more meaningful way. They allow us to invest in the future of the industry, connect with emerging talent and help students see that a career in software can be practical, collaborative, challenging and full of opportunity.
To everyone who joined our Kahoot, visited our stand, asked questions, or entered the draw – thank you. We loved meeting you, and we hope to see many of you again soon.
