SOLIDitech’s Software Experts Dished the Dirt at UCT’s 2022 Epic Career Expo

With our laptops open and wearing our favourite SOLIDitech Branded Tops (with coffees in hand) our team spent Wednesday, 03 August 2022 at the University of Cape Town’s Virtual Epic Job Expo.  

Students put everything into studying to be the best version of themselves – and – they have questions… (we’ve been there).

We understand that jumpstarting your career can be confusing and totally overwhelming. With that in mind, our goal for this year’s virtual Epic Job Expo was to answer as many questions as we could to help students understand what working in software actually means, what Software Engineers actually do, and what other career opportunities are available within the industry. 

From Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Analysts to Scrum Managers and Business Analysts – We had a full team of real-life experts ready and excited to chat to the future stars of our industry. As always, we were very impressed at the professionalism and calibre of questions asked by each student – from general career questions to CV tips and interview help. 

While our meeting rooms were jam-packed with chatter and questions flying around, a few took charge of our virtual booth, where we spent the day chatting to students about the ground-breaking projects we’re working on and our fantastic competition available to enter. 

We also had great fun communicating with UCT Student communities such as the UCT Developers Society and the Women in Computer Science at UCT,  on our Instagram account. On IG, we provide a plethora of information about a career in this exciting industry (including any vacancies we may have – hint hint). 

We have a number of career opportunities, which provides a great space for young graduates to kick off their career in the best possible environment – a SOLID environment. Have a look at our Careers Centre to see what is available ->

Of course – there’s nothing like winning big to top off an already exciting day! It was simple: Answer our crossword, work out the magic word and stand a chance of winning a R1,000 Takealot Voucher. Done and dusted – like taking candy from a baby (weird, don’t do that).

We have been working alongside the UCT Career Services team for as number of years now and it’s a strong relationship that we value. As it is every year, this year’s Epic Job Expo was a huge success. The future of our industry is in safe hands and we look forward to the next event hosted by UCT (as always).
